Brake Repair: an overview
Brakes are the most important safety system on your vehicle. Stop-start traffic wears them faster than you might expect. If you notice noise, vibration or a change in how the pedal feels, have them checked promptly.
Problems we can help with
- Squealing or grinding when braking
- Vibration through the pedal or steering wheel
- Soft or spongy brake pedal
- Car pulling to one side when braking
- Brake or ABS warning light
- Longer stopping distances
What we do
We inspect the complete braking system: pads or shoes, discs or drums, calipers, hoses, brake lines, fluid condition and the handbrake. We measure wear and explain what needs replacing now and what can wait.
Typical work includes brake pad and shoe replacement, disc and drum replacement or machining where suitable, brake fluid replacement, caliper and hose repairs, and ABS fault diagnosis. After the work, the vehicle is road-tested to confirm the brakes perform correctly.

Brake Repair: frequently asked questions
How do I know my brake pads need replacing?
Common signs include a high-pitched squeal, grinding, a longer stopping distance or a pad-wear warning light. We can measure the remaining pad thickness during an inspection.
Do discs always need replacing with new pads?
Not always. If the discs are within the manufacturer's minimum thickness and are not badly scored or warped, they can often be reused. We measure them and tell you.
How often should brake fluid be changed?
Brake fluid absorbs moisture over time, which reduces its effectiveness. Most manufacturers recommend changing it every one to two years — check your service book or ask us.
