Oil Change: an overview
Engine oil lubricates, cools and cleans the inside of the engine. Over time it breaks down and collects dirt, so changing it on schedule is one of the simplest ways to protect an engine.
An oil change is quicker than a full service and suits drivers between services, or anyone whose oil is due by distance or time.
Problems we can help with
- Oil change due by mileage or date
- Oil warning light or low oil level
- Oil looks dark, gritty or smells burnt
- Engine sounds noisier than usual
- Service reminder showing on the dashboard
What we do
We drain the old oil, replace the oil filter and refill with oil of the viscosity and specification your vehicle's manufacturer recommends. We check the level after running the engine and look for leaks around the filter and drain plug.
While the vehicle is with us we also take a quick look at the other fluid levels, tyres, lights and wipers. If anything needs attention, we tell you before doing any extra work, and the oil change is recorded in your vehicle's service history.

Oil Change: frequently asked questions
How often should I change my engine oil?
Follow the interval in your service book, which is given as a distance or a time, whichever comes first. Dusty roads, stop-start traffic and short trips count as harder use, so many vehicles benefit from the shorter interval.
Which oil will you use?
The grade and specification your vehicle's manufacturer recommends. If you prefer a particular brand, let us know when you book.
Is an oil change the same as a service?
No. An oil change covers the engine oil and oil filter. A service also covers other filters, fluids and safety checks due at your mileage.
