Spare Car Keys: an overview
Many vehicles on the road have only one working key. If that key is lost, getting back on the road is usually more involved than making a spare while a working key is still available. A spare key is a sensible precaution.

Spare Car Keys: frequently asked questions
Is a spare key the same as a key copy?
For older keys without a chip, a cut copy may be enough. Most modern keys also need programming to the car, so the spare is a fully working key rather than just a copy of the blade.
Do I need to bring the car?
For most modern keys, yes — programming is done with the vehicle.
