AC Compressor Repair: an overview
The compressor is the heart of the air conditioning system: it pumps the refrigerant that carries heat out of the cabin. When it fails, the AC stops cooling completely or makes noise when it is switched on.
Compressor faults are not always the compressor itself — a clutch, relay, sensor or low refrigerant can stop it working — so we diagnose carefully before recommending a replacement.

AC Compressor Repair: frequently asked questions
How do I know if my AC compressor is failing?
Common signs are no cold air at all, loud noises when the AC is switched on, or the compressor clutch not engaging. Testing confirms whether the compressor or another part is at fault.
Can I drive with a faulty AC compressor?
Usually, if it is simply not engaging. But a seized compressor can affect the drive belt, which may drive other components, so have a noisy compressor checked promptly.
Do you replace other parts with the compressor?
Sometimes components such as the receiver-drier or expansion valve should be replaced at the same time. If so, we explain why in the estimate before any work starts.
